7 February 2008
ABU DHABI -Abu Dhabi Golf Club (ADGC) -run by Troon Golf, and home to the European PGA Tour sanctioned Abu Dhabi Golf Championship -has scooped the sport’s top regional accolade, ‘Golf Club of the Year’, at the inaugural Middle East Golfer Awards, a Press release said.

ADGC’s sublime Par 72 National Course -which only weeks ago held the third annual Championship, led from start to finish by German wonder-kid, Martin Kaymer -also scored another ‘ace’ as it picked up the ‘Best 18 Holes’ gong.

In addition, the UAE capital’s flagship golf venue was short listed for the ‘Best Clubhouse’ and ‘Best Instructor’ prizes as well, bringing ADGC’s nomination tally to four.

With the majority of prizes being decided by the voters of Middle East Golfer magazine, awards were given across a range of categories, from equipment to courses, with the region’s most exciting future projects also honoured.

Success

“These accolades pay homage to the resounding success we have had at Abu Dhabi Golf Club in the last year. We started 2007 aiming to establish the National as the Middle East’s top course, and this award goes a long way to confirming that. In addition, to win the schemes top honours, Golf Club of the Year, reflects the unrivalled reputation this venue has on the regional golf scene,” said Nik Robinson, Director of Sales and Marketing, ADGC. As the home of the $2 million Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, which boasted its strongest competitor field to date this year, ADGC is integral to the vision of spearheading the UAE capital onto the international golf tourism arena while providing world-class facilities to golfing residents in the emirate and the country.

The club undertook numerous improvements to the facility during the last 12 months with many more scheduled for 2008. One of the major highlights for 2007 was the launch of The Golf Institute, which boasts one of the Middle East’s highest standard of golf instruction facilities supported by cutting-edge technology.
