Fujairah to host World Billiards Championship

FUJAIRAH — Under the patronage of Shaikh Saleh bin Muhammad Al Sharqi, chairman of the Economy and Industry Department, the emirate of Fujairah, for the third time, will host the World Billiards Championship from March 1-8 at Al Bustan hall room.

As many as 64 professional players representing 40 countries from around the globe will take part in the championship, which will be organised under the supervision of the International Billiard and Snooker Federation and the Emirates Billiards & Snooker Federation.

The Organising Committee of the championship held a press conference at Seji Al Diar hotel. The committee discussed the latest preparations and arrangements for hosting the championship.

Present at the conference were Khalid Al Mazrouie, head of the organising committee, Selim Al Jeneibi, member of the board of directors of the UAE Billiards and Snooker Federation, Muhammad Tamjid Abdullah, deputy Chief Executive Officer of Damas group, the official sponsor of the championship, engineer Ali Qasim, representative of Fujairah Municipality, Ahmed Ibrahim, international promoter for Billiard and manager of the championship, and finally Sultan Saif Sultan, head of the marketing panel of the championship.

Khalid Al Mazrouie, director of the Fujairah International Airport, who is also the head of the organising committee, addressed the conference as he highlighted the great success that had been achieved at the previous two championships organised in Fujairah.

"Two UAE players will take part in the championship," noted Ahmed Inbrahim, adding the financial awards are estimated at 120,000 Euro.

"This championship is an opportunity to reveal the features of the emirate of Fujairah in particular and the UAE in general," said Muhammad Tamjid Abdullah.

Tamjid, following the conclusion of his speech, handed over a one-million dirham cheque to the head of the organising committee as a subsidy for the championship.
