Asian Chess Federation moves to Al Ain
(Wam)

20 October 2006
ABU DHABI — General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has welcomed the shifting of the headquarters of the Asian Chess Federation from Doha to Al Ain City. Chess thus becomes the first Asian association to establish a seat in the UAE.

Shaikh Mohammed made his remarks as he received Shaikh Sultan bin Khalifa bin Shakhbout Al Nahyan, chairman of the UAE Chess Association, as part of his support for national sports groups. Now that chess has set up base in the UAE, Shaikh Mohammed hoped that other sporting bodies would follow suit. Shaikh Sultan, in turn, thanked Shaikh Mohammed for his financial and moral support.  Secretary-general of the Chess Association, Husham Al Tahir, will soon leave for Doha to process the necessary arrangements to shift ACF to Al Ain.
