SAN’A, Yemen - Yemeni leader Ali Abdullah Saleh will send donations he received for his presidential election campaign to the Lebanese and the Palestinians, an aide said Thursday.

The president’s move is in solidarity with those who are facing the Israeli aggression, Yehia Mohammed Saleh told the official Yemeni News agency, SABA.

He said all the US$5 million (Ð3.91 million) which Saleh has received in public donations will go the Lebanese and Palestinians.

Yemen will hold presidential elections on Sept. 20. Five candidates including incumbent Saleh compete in the coming poll.

Saleh, who had previously said that he would not seek another term in office, announced last month that he would run in the elections. He has ruled Yemen since 1990.
