Australian exports to the Mideast sets new record

16 July 2007
DUBAI — Australian exporters have set a new record for sheepmeat exports to the Middle East. Mutton exports reached 52,175 tonnes swt for the 2006/2007 fiscal year, a 42 per cent increase on the previous year, and the largest fiscal year figure since 1993/1994, after the wool price scheme was abolished.

UAE (+95pc) and the key destination of Saudi Arabia (26pc) were the destinations behind the increases in mutton exports, and volumes to Qatar and Abu Dhabi were also strong.

In other global markets, falls in CIS were offset by gains in South Africa, whilst Asia, Europe and North America remained steady.
