US firms to clinch major deals at IDEX

ABU DHABI — US companies are expecting to clinch some major deals at the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) which kicked off yesterday in the capital.

"We have 35 per cent share in the total arms purchases of the UAE, during the year 2006," said US Ambassador to UAE Michele Sisson, while talking to reporters, at the inaugration of US pavillion.

She said that 49 companies are strongly participating at the exhibition, eying the expanding arms market of GCC and the Middle East.

The US ambassador said that US companies are likely to clinch significant amount of orders during the exhibition.

She said that US arms industry share in the UAE puchases in on high since past five years. The share which is 35 per cent at the end of 2006, is likely to climb significantly this year," Michele Sisson said.

The exports from US to UAE rose to $12 billion, she said, showing her satisfication over the trade exchanges between the two nations.
