ABU DHABI — GCC and Chinese officials will hold the next round of talks for a trade boosting Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in the next two months.
In the latest round of negotiations, the GCC presented a list of requests relating to the main GCC export goods.
"Therefore, an FTA between the two will open up significant opportunities for enhancement of trade relations, since China has high tariffs of up to 65 per cent on certain items," said Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Economy.
The minister said that the UAE is China's second largest trading partner in GCC and is the biggest market for Asia's largest economy. The GCC-China trade reached $14.4 billion in 2006, with aluminum and related products representing the largest chunk of UAE exports, followed by steel and related products.
