DUBAI — Seven new educational institutions in the UAE have been licensed by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) to operate and accept students for higher studies in the future.
The Commission of Academic Accreditation (CAA), which is part of MOHESR, announced this yesterday. This now brings the total number of licensed institutions in the UAE to 53.
The institutions include Boston University Institute for Dental Research and Education, Horizon International Flight Academy, Al Ain, Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland-Dubai, Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research, Khalifa Bin Zayed Air College and University College of Mother and Family Sciences.
Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, urged students to go through CAA's web site and check if programmes and colleges have the ministry's accreditation before they enrol in any institution.
The ministry is extremely keen to create awareness among students and parents on licensed and accredited institutions so they do not choose colleges that do not have permission to operate in the UAE.
Dr Badr Aboul-Ela, Director of CAA, told Khaleej Times, "We have licensed seven more institutes and they can begin operating any time within the next two years. However, most of them will offer programmes in September this year."
Meanwhile, the status of two educational institutes has been changed from college to university. American College in the Emirates has been changed to American University in the Emirates and Skyline College is now Skyline University College.
