Police urged to enforce dress code in Sharjah
By a staff reporter

27 April 2008
SHARJAH — The Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) has urged the police to enforce the modesty decision of the Ruler in the emirate by which the women have to wear decently covering dresses.

The SCC session was held on Thursday to decide on the recommendations made at its session on April 10 to enhance the police department’s performance. The members of the SCC recommended the launching of a special tourism police wing to provide safety and assistance to the tourists as well as educate them on the rules and regulations of the emirate, and the religion, culture and tradition of Arabs.

The members also recommended the launching of security and safety awareness programmes in all languages on TV and radio to educate the residents from different backgrounds about the crimes and drugs as well as the ways to not fall victims of various crimes.

Increasing traffic patrolling to curb racing by cars and motorcycles on the roads and conducting studies to solve the traffic congestion in the emirate are two other recommendations made by the members.
