DUBAI — The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched an scheme under which innovative ideas can be exchanged for lucrative awards.

Called the Fikraty scheme, it is meant to create a bank of suggestions to improve Dubai’s local transport system.

According to the scheme, the staff, strategic partners, investors, suppliers and the public are invited to provide relevant inputs or ideas to complement the development of transport and related services provided by the RTA.

"Fikraty will encourage an exchange of ideas that are necessary for growth. The objective of the scheme is to open and ease external and internal communication channels which will aid the operations of the entity with its primary focus being the development of the transport in the emirate. The scheme will facilitate creative thinking and thus help us improve our performance. All positive suggestions will be rewarded," according to Abdulmohsin Ibrahim, CEO of Strategy and Corporate Governance.

Laila Hareb, Director of Strategy and Corporate Performance Department, said, "RTA will welcome suggestions through the website (www.rta.ae) by email and through a prescribed template which can be filled and handed over personally at the RTA office. Other alternatives to register suggestions include calling the authority or its call centre on 8009090."

All suggestions will be evaluated according to prescribed standards relevant to the mode of operation, costs involved, revenues anticipated after implementation and the availability of time.

Hareb said, "People will be rewarded for their suggestions according to revenues generated from the projects after their implementation. Remunerations will be based on the following four categories: Revenues generated worth Dh100,000 to Dh500,000 will be awarded a cash prize of  Dh8,000; those worth Dh500,000 to Dh750,000 will be awarded Dh12,000; a cash reward of Dh20,000 will be given for profits which meet the merit of  Dh750,000 to Dh1,000,000 while those projects which exceed profits worth Dh1,000,000 will get Dh40,000.

Winners will also benefit from points that will be attributed for their suggestions. For every suggestion, five points will be credited to him along with a cash prize.
