Valeen finds her perfect match

15 December 2006,
HER GRANDFATHER, Mario Montenegro, was a popular actor during the 60s. So it comes as no surprise that 16-year-old Valeen Montenegro would follow in his footsteps. A talent of Star Magic, Valeen was introduced in the music video of Mahiwagang Pag-Ibig,

valeenthe theme song of Love Spell performed by Aldred Gatchalian. She was the girl that Aldred was chasing in the video, which was shot in an old building in Binondo, Manila. The pretty, fair-skinned teenager and the dimpled ex-Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition housemate hit it off immediately, and have now been paired together in several projects, including the recently-concluded Crazy For You, where she played Luis Manzano’s younger sister. They are again reunited in ABS-CBN’s newest youth-oriented show, Abt Ur Luv.

Valeen says that in the beginning, she was paired with other young actors, notably, Mikee Lee, also of Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition, and Aaron Villaflor, the runner-up of Star Circle National Teen Quest. “But it was only with Aldred that I became comfortable. I don’t know why, we just hit it off, I guess,” she says.

She thought that the Mahiwagang Pag-Ibig music video would be their first and last project together. But the ABS-CBN executives must have seen something in their team-up that pretty soon, more and more opportunities to work together were coming their way.

In fact, their roles in Crazy For You were supposed to have gone to Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, but both were already so busy that the roles were given instead to Valeen and Aldred. Viewer reaction to their loveteam has been so good that more projects are reportedly being lined up for them. People are calling them a perfect match.

“I thought the [music video] was the end of our team-up. But we clicked, and here we are,” she says.

But are they a romantic item offscreen too? "I don’t have a boyfriend yet," says Valeen with an amused smile.
