Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) is planning to install surveillance cameras in school buses for the next school year.Installing surveillance cameras in school buses is being considered for the next school year, according to a comprehensive plan being drawn up by the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC).
The surveillance cameras are meant to ensure the safety of students while travelling to and from school. An SMS notification as soon as students board the bus and leave the school is also being considered in order to assist parents in preparing for the arrival of their children.
The comprehensive study on the new school transportation requirements is currently being carried out by the ADEC in partnership with the Emirates Transport and the schools as part of the overall changes to be implemented in public schools for the 2011-2012 academic year.
The ADEC has formed a committee “to identify the impact” of schools being merged, built and relocated, and ascertain the number of buses needed for transporting students of each school.
The use of the ADEC’s Geographic Information System (GIS) is also being considered by the committee to develop transportation plans in accordance with the best bus routes. “This will help minimise carbon emissions, alleviate traffic jams and save student time,” said an ADEC statement.
