Mohammed, Brown Discuss World Issues

LONDON - His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, met British PM Gordon Brown on Monday .

Shaikh Mohammed with Gordon Brown in London on Monday.—AFPBoth leaders discussed political and economic situations both regionally and internationally and stressed the importance of peace in the conflict regions, particularly in the Middle East, Afghanistan and other areas of the world.

Shaikh Mohammed discussed with Gordon Brown potentials for growing cooperation between the UAE and the UK in all domains, especially in education, investment, commerce, as well as joint efforts to mitigate effects of the global economic downturn.

Brown said he was impressed with the quick recovery made by the UAE economy and the measures taken by the leadership and government there that led to minimal impact of that crisis on the country’s economy. High on the meeting’s agenda were the UAE investments in the UK and the role played by the UAE in this regard.

Shaikh Mohammed and Brown emphasised the importance of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of medical and peaceful nuclear technologies.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Ruler of Dubai Shaikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Foreign Minister Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan,  Chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and President of the Emirates Airlines Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and other members of the delegation accompanying Shaikh Mohammed.
