Mohammed Meets Jerry Yang of Yahoo!

DUBAI — His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai received Co-founder, Former Chief Executive Officer of Yahoo! Inc. Jerry Yang and the delegation accompanying him on Thursday.

Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince was also present.

They discussed aspects of cooperation between Dubai Internet City and Yahoo! and discussed the company’s investment plans in the region through Dubai, which Jerry Yang considered the best and more feasible gateway for the regional operations of the company.

Jerry Yang briefed Shaikh Mohammed on Yahoo!’s plan to acquire Dubai’s website ‘Maktoob’ reflecting the company’s keenness for enhancing software development in Arabic and benefiting from the position of UAE in general and Dubai in particular for the market growth in the Middle East. The Yahoo! Co-founder hailed of the level of infrastructure in the Dubai Internet City.

Shaikh Mohammed welcomed the creative talents coming into the country through companies in which they operate, such as Yahoo! Inc.  The meeting was attended by Mohammed Abdullah Al Gargawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Ahmad bin Bayat, CEO of Dubai Holding, Abdul Latif Al Mulla Group CEO, TECOM Investments and other senior officials.
