The showers in Fujairah, Hatta and Masafi reduced the temperature to a balmy 35 degrees Celsius in the region, a National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) forecaster said on Saturday.
According to the NCMS official, Hatta recorded a 6.6 millimetres of rainfall while other parts witnessed moderate to heavy rains which could not be recorded.
A southeasterly wind which travelled from the Arabian Sea and passed over the mountainous region caused the sudden weather change, giving a respite from the sultry and humid weather conditions, the official said.
Though Abu Dhabi and Dubai did not witness any rain, the temperature dropped dramatically to 36-40 degrees Celsius.
The start of southeasterly and northeasterly wind from today will see an increase in temperature up to a maximum of 41 degrees today and a minimum of 30 degrees.
While the maximum humidity in the country will be around 75 per cent and a minimum 25 per cent, the skies will continue to be cloudy in different parts of the country with likelihood of rain in the some areas.
It is unusual for squalls to hit the UAE in early September and the rains, when they come, are more inclined to cross our skies come mid-October when the fog blanks us out and then cheerfully renders space to the welcome and overdue deluge.
