He was recalled for his role in initiating the construction boom and progress in the economic, social and cultural fields.
Ahmed bin Shabib Al Dhahiri, first deputy chairman of the Federal National Council (FNC) said the UAE people were grateful to the late Shaikh Zayed, for his role in the humanitarian field.
He said Shaikh Zayed established many bodies and charitable institutions.
Mohamed Fadel Al Hamili, Vice Chairman of the Secretariat-General of the Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care, said Shaikh Zayed laid the foundations of an integrated project-for the UAE which is considered the corner stone of its development.
“On the anniversary of Shaikh Zayed, we are proud that we are working in an institution that holds the name of the late ruler and this in itself is a continuation of his message, which he initiated and completed by our wise leadership,” Hamili said.
Hamili said subsequent leaders had adopted the principles advocated by Shaikh Zayed which give priority to those with special needs and was noted to say that reducing disability was the responsibility of everyone.
Dr Nidal Al Tenaiji, member of the FNC said the memory of Shaikh Zayed will live forever in the hearts and consciences of the UAE people.
Dr. Aisha Al Roumi member of FNC, said “the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was able to bring his dream to the great reality where he established the United Arab Emirates in December 1971.
“The late Shaikh Zayed established an important principle is that the continuity of each emirate primarily is relying on the continuation of the Federation of UAE and any imbalance in the structure of the state will reflect negatively on the construction of each emirate.”
Al Roumi said Shaikh Zayed had stepped up efforts on the construction of vital infrastructure after the establishment of the UAE federation.
She said what the UAE is experiencing now is reflective of what Shaikh Zayed’s work.
This included agriculture which now has more than 600 thousand acres and the total green area amounts to more than one million acres.
Hussein Al Rabia, media adviser to the general manager’s office at Abu Dhabi Municipality said, “The late Shaikh Zayed gave great importance to water and power projects due to its contribution to the growth of industrial and agricultural progress in the country.”
Al Rabia said water and electricity networks spread throughout the country to secure the needs of citizens of fresh water and meet the needs of agriculture, amounting to about 300 million gallons per day, according to statistics from the Ministry of Environment and Water.
He asserted that the electricity linkage project between the emirates contributed to meeting the needs of the country which has one of the largest and most sophisticated electricity networks in the region.
Al Rabia said that during Shaikh Zayed’s rule, the UAE witnessed substantial industrial development and investment.
The amount spent on projects in 1995 amounted to nearly Dh13.7 billion.
The Ministry of Finance and Industry’s statistics said the total number of industrial installations in the UAE in 2003 was about 2795 companies and factories.
