Obama to take victory lap after health care win
(AFP)

8 November 2009,
WASHINGTON - US President Barack Obama was to make a statement to the press Sunday, after the House of Representatives narrowly approved a health care reform package, his top domestic priority.

The US leader was to speak to the media at 1800 GMT Sunday in the White House Rose Garden.

The House, by a vote of 220 to 215 late Saturday, approved the broadest overhaul of US health care in four decades, heeding Obama’s appeal to “answer the call of history.”

The bill, approved after some 12 hours of bitter debate, amounts to a 10-year, trillion-dollar plan to extend health coverage to some 36 million Americans who lack it now.
