DUBAI — A waiter went on trial on Thursday on charges of fraud, theft and forgery in the Court of First Instance.

The 28-year-old Filipino is accused of spending Dh3,274 from a credit card he stole from his work place.

The defendant allegedly stole a Dubai Islamic Bank credit card, kept at the Deposit Box at the restaurant where he worked in Jebel Ali. He admitted to prosecutors to having taken the credit card on finding it at the restaurant.

He also admitted to having used it to buy food and a mobile phone worth Dh3,150 from Micro City Electronics on May 27. He allegedly forged the signature of the cardholder on the purchase receipt.
