Khalifa sets up "Council of Borders Affairs"

ABU DHABI — President High Higness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, issued the federal decree No. 98 of the year 2009, establishing the “Council of Borders Affairs” under the chairmanship of General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

The council is composed of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Lt.General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan as Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan as Vice President, Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of the Emirates Airline and Group HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs HE Ahmed Juma Al Za’abi, Chief of Intelligence and Military Security and Dr. Matar Hamed Halis Al Niyadi as Members. Al Niyadi is a member and the Secretary General of the Council.

The “Council of Borders Affairs”, according to the decree, is the country’s official competent authority mandated to deal with borders issues.

The decree also abolished the federal decree No.71/ year 1999 regarding the formation and the jurisdiction of the Permanent Borders Committee with all its amendments and stipulated that all the assets of the Committee, its obligations and rights as well as the financial allocations will be transferred to the Council of Borders Affairs.
