ABU DHABI — Nine traditional open-top double-decker buses for tourists will start operating in Abu Dhabi for the first time from tomorrow, from Marina Mall, Khaleej Times has learnt.

The Big Bus Company, a family-owned company that has been operating open-top sightseeing bus tours in London since 1991 and in Dubai since 2002, will launch its newest destination of Abu Dhabi tomorrow.

Talking to Khaleej Times on Friday, Ines Zahouani, marketing manager, Double Decker Bus Tours, Dubai, said the charges for an adult will be Dh200, a child Dh100 and a family package including two adults and two children Dh500.

She said, “Initially, we are bringing in eight-nine buses. Let’s see the response of people in the first phase, then more buses would be added if required.”

The new tour buses are designed to offer tourists and residents alike the opportunity to see the capital as never before.

The Big Bus Sightseeing Tour is the perfect introduction to Abu Dhabi. The 24-hour ticket will provide access to all of the Big Bus Tour routes, with 11 stops where guests can hop on and hop off at their leisure, allowing visitors complete control of their itinerary, Zahouani said.

“The carefully designed tours take you to all the major landmarks from the magnificent Shaikh Zayed Mosque to traditional souks and from the luxurious Emirates Palace Hotel to the historic heritage village.”

The audio commentary in eight languages will be provided giving an insight into the history and culture of the city. These languages are Arabic, English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Mandarin and Russian.

Chris Crompton, general manager of Big Bus Tours, said, “The development in Abu Dhabi at the moment is phenomenal as the city works hard to establish itself on the global tourism map and we are delighted to be able to offer our passengers the only open-top double-decker tour of this city.  Initially, we will operate just one route that takes in all of the sights and attractions of this fascinating city. However, as the city expands onto the neighbouring islands, we will grow with it to make sure that all of the new sights of Abu Dhabi are included in the Big Bus tour.”

Tours will depart daily, seven days a week from Marina Mall, with regular departures between 9am and 5pm while tickets are available online on www.bigbustours.com, from your hotel or at the Big Bus sales desk at Marina Mall.
