Scattered rain in Dubai brought the temperature down to a cozy 17.5ºC. Abu Dhabi and Umm Al Quwain also received rain.
The day remained cloudy yesterday as different parts of the emirate witnessed sporadic rainfall.
Dr SK Gupta, duty forecaster at the Meteorological Office at Dubai International Airport, attributed the changed weather condition to jet streams or fast flowing, narrow air currents from Saudi Arabia, blowing eastward.
“Medium clusters of clouds from the west, in Saudi Arabia, are drifting towards the east, causing light showers in neighbouring countries like Oman and the UAE,” Gupta explained.
However, the Met official clarified that no significant amount of rainfall was expected in the next few days though the skies would remain cloudy or partly cloudy, with cool and breezy conditions prevailing.
He also cautioned the public to avoid going deep into the sea today, as strong Shamal or northwesterly winds are expected to continue blowing in the emirate.
“Shamal will bring the waves up from 6 to 8 feet and it could even reach 10 feet. That’s the reason we are issuing the advisory,” the official explained.
