Windstorm hoax spreads panic
By a staff reporter

26 July 2006
DUBAI — A certain sense of panic gripped Dubai residents yesterday following a series of anonymous hoax e-mails alerting people about a windstorm moving into Dubai on Friday. The e-mails started to spread apprehensions last morning prompting people to call up media offices as well as the met office.

Adding to the apprehension was a radio broadcast on an FM channel. However, when Khaleej Times contacted the Met office at the Dubai International Airport, the officials denied any such forecast.

The Met office maintained that the emirate will experience generally clear skies and temperature in the range of 45 C. High humidity and dust swirls were also likely, it was stated.
