UAE, Qatar to set up company for causeway

ABU DHABI — The UAE and Qatar yesterday agreed to set up a joint company to manage and oversee the execution of a new bridge linking the two countries.

This was announced yesterday in Abu Dhabi and Doha in a communique issued at the end of the two-day visit of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Doha.

Following is the full text of the communique: “In response to a kind invitation by the Amir of Qatar, His Highness Shaikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, President Shaikh Khalifa visited Qatar on December 21 and 22.

During the visit President Khalifa and the accompanying delegation was accorded official reception that amply demonstrated the depth of fraternal ties between the two countries. During bilateral talks both side explored ways of bolstering cooperation. The two sides stressed the need for reinvigorating the joint high ministerial committee between the two countries.

They further agreed to set up a joint company to manage and oversee the execution of a new causeway linking the two countries.
