QUETTA — A 5.1-magnitude quake rattled parts of southwestern Pakistan yesterday, causing people to rush out of their homes in panic. No casualties were reported.

Tremors were felt in the remote towns of Khuzdar and Sarrab, about 400 kilometres south of Quetta, the capital of southwestern Baluchistan province, said Mohammed Adnan, an official at the meteorological department in Quetta. The quake occurred shortly after 8 p.m. local time.

A local government official, Ashraf Khan, said the quake caused panic, but said there were no reports of casualties or damage.

The quake occurred three days after a 7.6-magnitude quake caused widespread death and devastation in northwest Pakistan and the Himalayan territory of Kashmir.
