Saudi forces besiege wanted militants in Dammam

5 September 2005
RIYADH - Saudi forces on Monday were besieging at least two militants in Dammam a day after clashes in the eastern oil city killed two gunmen and a policeman, security sources said.

They said the militants were believed to be members of the Saudi wing of Al Qaeda and on a list of 36 most wanted fugitives in the world’s largest oil exporter, which has been battling loyalists of bin Laden for more than two years.

Security forces, armed with automatic weapons and rocket propelled grenades, were surrounding a house in a Dammam neighbourhood where the militants are hiding.

A policeman was killed in a raid on the same building on Sunday hours after a gunbattle
