POWER-GEN kicks off, targets new technology

ABU DHABI — Three-day POWER-GEN, an international exhibition and conference kicked-off yesterday in thecapital attracting world’s top water & power technology companies, experts and government officials who would not only offer their products and services but discuss industry-specific issues.

POWER-GEN has already crossed its regional boundaries transforming into an international energy show. The event is considered as an opportunity for clients who can meet with manufacturers to known the newtechnologies and services.

The show was inaugurated by Abdullah bin Mohammad Al Massaod, Chairman of the National Consultative Council, on behalf of  Shaikh Diab bin Zayed Al Nahyan, member of the Executive Council, Chairman of

Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA). The ceremony was attended by a number of shaikhs,ministers, officials and diplomats besides senior officials from Gulf’s electricity and waterdepartments including.

Abdullah Saif Al Nuaimi, Director of Privatisation Directorate, ADWEA, Ahmad Humaid Al Mazrouie, Managing Director, ADNEC, Dr.Saleh Al Alawi, DG of the Omani Power Regulatory  Authority, Dr. Saud Al Humaidan, member of the GCC Networks Authority, Omar Al Ghamdi, Chairman of Saudi Arabia Water and Electricity. POWER-GEN which is being held in Abu Dhabi International Exhibitions Centre, will continue till  February1 and is organised by ADNEC and Pennwell Corporation.

“The exhibition is set to highlight the growth requirements of the region’s power sector. “Power-GenMiddle East 2006 provides an ideal platform where the provider meets with the operator to exchange ideas and build business between different power companies in the Middle East where they can showcase their latest technologies on power generating and T&D” said  Abdullah Saif Al Nuaimi, Director of Privatisation Directorate, ADWEA.

Currently, ADWEA is stepping confidentially toward  privatising the Abu Dhabi Distribution Company and Al Ain Distribution Company and had undertaken series decisions in order to reach similar results as in the

previous privatised production companies. He said that conference is at a time when world is witnessing in the role of Power Generation in the developed and growing countries economy, and where it is no longer a burden on the countries budgets and  instead considered a significant investment field that attract financial revenues, and creating job opportunities for the nations.

Previous successes attained by the Power-Gen sessions in Abu Dhabi is due to the reason of holding it in the region’s precursor capital, winding up  the traditional perspective for the sector’s role in the economical growth, and entering a new economical era. PGME is presenting a high-level strategic and technical  conference addressing the key issues facing the sector, covering areas such as; strategies to meet demand, financing options, project planning and cutting-edge technology in both power and desalination. It has been a priority to secure the participation of top-level speakers, market leaders and experts’ electricity and water ministry officials, regulators, consultants, financiers and developers.

Acknowledging the role of the leadership of the UAE in the growth of the event,  Ahmad Humaid Al Mazrouie, ADNEC Board Member & Managing Director of ADNEC said, that the event is hugely important as it tackles important issues such power generation, T&D and desalination.
