Tunisian PM praises Dubai Ports, JAFZA

DUBAI — Tunisian Prime Minister Mohamed Ghannouchi in his recent visit, has praised the progress and development achieved by Dubai Ports and JAFZA and expressed his admiration of Dubai government's port projects, indicating that their benefits would not only serve the UAE economy, but would also serve the GCC and other Arab countries.

Ghannouchi said that he would make further visits to Dubai to boost mutual cooperation in various fields. 

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, welcomed Ghannouchi and the accompanying delegation and reviewed the development process of Dubai ports.

He said that Dubai had started the process with 15 berths at Port Rashid and was followed in 1979 by 67 berths at Jebel Ali Port. He noted that the berths of Port Rashid rose to 35 later making a total of 102 berths at Dubai ports which handled 6.4 million teus (twenty-foot equivalent units) last year.

Bin Sulayem said that Dubai International managed to spread worldwide in a bid to boost foreign investment and diversify income. He underlined the importance of providing customers worldwide with the best facilities ensuring quality and speed.

He added that Dubai International started in June 2002 the management operations of Djibouti Port and entered last July the Indian markets by equipping and operating a new container terminal at the Port of Visakhapatnam on India's Eastern Coast.

He said that Dubai International has won recently a 35-year contract having an exclusive concession to operate and manage Rajiv Gandhi container terminal.
