BY A STAFF REPORTER

17 September 2004
ABU DHABI - Porsche Center, the new showroom for automobiles from the German stable of Porsche was declared open in the capital on Tuesday.

Located at the intersection of Salam Street and Mina Road, the posh premises is spread over 430 square metres.

Speaking on the occasion,  Porsche Middle East Managing Director Mark Bishop said that customers are reposing confidence in the brand, going by the increase in the volume of sales, steadily up over the last six years.

For the financial year ending July 31 this year, sale of Porsche vehicles in the Middle East region recorded a figure of 2,392, that is an impressive increase from the year-ago figure of 942. It was a success story in Abu Dhabi as well where the figure for the period rose to 399 from 164, an increase of 143 per cent. The introduction of two models of sports cars to the Porsche family accounted for in good measure to the spurt in sales, he said.

Ali bin Khalfan Al Dhaheri, Chairman of Ali and Sons, distributor for Porsche in Abu Dhabi emirate, said that the showroom, so strategically located, will reach out conveniently to customers. "It is our endeavour to cater to the needs of customers whose numbers have been steadily growing over the years," he said.

Ali and Sons also launched yesterday in the capital the new Porsche 911 Carrera in two power versions- 911 Carrera 325 bhp featuring a 3.6 litre, flat-six power unit and the 911 Carrera S powered by 355 bhp, 3.8 litre.

The new models sport a powerful body with a new waistline, while continuing with the salient features of existing model lines, such as high performance brake system, safety devices, enhanced  power and performance factors.

The interior is brand-new in design with egronomics enhanced to higher standards. “As an option the new 911 Carrera can be upgraded to a standard of sporting and dynamic motoring never seen before,” Bishop said.
