DUBAI - UAE economy is performing well, despite the instability in the global oil prices, said Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance and Industry.

Speaking to reporters during a tour along with General Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defence, of the Gitex pavilions at the Dubai World Trade Centre yesterday, Shaikh Hamdan said, “During the last few years, UAE economy has shown a robust performance for it mainly relies on trade and investments.”

“Thank God that we do not depend on oil alone, therefore our economy registered a strong growth of over 30 per cent in those days when the global economy was on track. He said “Fluctuations in oil prices have recently cast a shadow reducing the government expenditure and investments in the projects planned in the UAE.

This year Gitex is hosting a record number of over 2,428 companies, which includes wireless, IP telephony, data storage, CRM, business software and security software companies. The event is important for many local companies, who are using the event to showcase their products and services to the region. At present, Gitex has 21 national pavilions, 930 exhibitors  spread over an  area of 27,489 square metres  all underlining an impressive and sustained rate of growth. Conveniently interlinked, the exhibition area is categorised into three zones.
