As an expat in Dubai, we are sure you are subjected to a few probing questions about your 'high life' in the emirate. With expats from all corners of the world, Dubai often comes up in the dinner-table conversations.

We have put together a list of ten common questions and their answers so that you are ready the next time you are cornered.
1. How is the desert treating you?

Yes, you can go to the desert to enjoy a safari ride in the sand dunes or a quiet barbeque under the stars but there is so much more to the city than the desert. After all, the city is one of the fastest growing and the tallest of buildings adorn its skyline.

2. With the tax-free income, you might be living a super-rich life in Dubai!

Yes, we do enjoy tax-free income but do you know Dubai is one of the most expensive cities, known for its high rent? Add to that, the costly standard of living!

3. Do you need to wear a burqa in Dubai?
No. While you are advised to dress modestly while visiting malls, public spaces or places of worship, you don't have to cover up with a burqa all the time!

4. Is it safe to be in a Muslim country given the turmoil around?
UAE last year topped the list of safest countries around the world to live in. One of the things expat women love about the place is the sense of security.
5. Is the city strict about Islam?
UAE actively promotes religious tolerance and is home to people from over 200 nationalities who bring in their own culture and religious practices. Expats all over are free to practice their own religion.
6. How many years are you going to stay in Dubai?
Dubai as a city will spoil you with its luxurious infrastructure, unlimited choices in food and lifestyle and the ease of life in general. Why would you want to go back so soon without enjoying them?
7. Is Dubai too materialistic?
Quite on the contrary, Dubai is home to expats from 200 countries bringing in their local vibe. It offers a myriad of cultures and you just need to step out to soak in the experiences.

8. Do you have to fast during the holy month of Ramadan?
No although you can, if you want to! Just like UAE has welcomed everyone with open arms, it is only fair to embrace and respect the local tradition. During the fasting hours, eating, drinking and smoking in public isn't allowed. In the work spaces, companies are required to provide an eating room to avoid distracting those who are fasting.

9. How many seasons do you have in Dubai?
Yes, expats from many countries love the sunny weather in Dubai. So, while it can get very hot in the summers, it is compensated by the winter months.
10. Isn't Dubai costly?
Dubai is home to both, the cheapest thrills and the lavish treats. Set your budget, look for options that excite you and explore the city.
